A few weeks ago when I was in France (#sopretentious), my mobile phone suddenly started losing its signal. As frustrating as it was, I figured once back in Berlin it would be fine. That, because my SIM card kept switching to whatever provider was available, the poor thing got confused. Continue reading “Just Drop It”
Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Just Berlin
Yeah, I went there. No, I didn’t actually go there. Maybe that guy did. Or probably that guy. But no, not me. What am I talking about? I’m talking about peeing. In public. In Berlin. Continue reading “Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Just Berlin”
The Good Samaritan
Yes, I’m still in Berlin. I know, it’s been awhile since I’ve written one of these. Stop yelling at me! The stress is going to send me to the doctor. Okay really bad segue, I know. Continue reading “The Good Samaritan”
‘Twas the Beer Before Christmas

Berlin Heatwave – To Draught or Not To Draft
I’m experiencing my second heatwave of the Berlin Summer. This one’s a doozy. When I was living in LA, I rarely bothered to check the weather app on my iPhone. You pretty much know what the weather is going to be. 75 and sunny. Hotter in August and September. That’s it. The cushiest job in the world is a meteorologist in Southern California. Krakow – Historic and Lively
When you take the free walking tour and the souvenir map includes in it’s key Polish phrases to know, “I don’t like Warsaw,” you can tell there is somewhat of a rivalry between the two cities. There needn’t be because the two cities are so vastly different. Warsaw is the financial center while Krakow, with much of its history surviving the war, is the more artful, more lively, and yes more touristy. But in a good way. As you visit key parts of the town and, of course, venture out to Auschwitz, history stares you in the face wherever you go. Continue reading “Krakow – Historic and Lively”
Day of the Dead
One of the (or so I was told) must-do things in Paris is to go to the catacombs. I’m not sure why I never did go as it sounded like an interesting change from art museums and the like. Down 130 steps into the bowels of Paris lies the ancient ossuary of the bones of about 6 million people moved from ancient burial grounds along the tunnels of underground Paris. Continue reading “Day of the Dead”
Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner
This actually happened a couple of weeks ago, so consider it a delayed post. I’ve subscribed to Adrian Leeds‘ newsletter for years. Adrian is an expat who is, among many other ventures, is a French property consultant. If, like me, you’re addicted to House Hunters International, you’ve seen her on most of the Paris episodes. Continue reading “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner”
French Healthcare
With all the hand ringing over Obamacare and what will happen to the US healthcare system, the French system is often used as a barometer. Some say we need a French-style system while others poo-poo it. Well, I’ve just experienced my first foray into the French system and let me say, move over Obamacare and any other bloated alternative. This is the answer! Continue reading “French Healthcare”
