I arrived at Dallas Love Field around 6PM local time yesterday. One rental car later and I was on the way north to McKinney, Texas, about a 35-40 minute drive.
As a reminder as to how my journey to Berlin starts in Texas, I had entered my play, 10/9, in a new play contest at the McKinney Reperatory Theatre and won second place. So tonight, they will be performing the play in a staged reading at the performing arts center, which was formerly their courthouse and stands in the center of the historic district.
And they put me up for two nights at the beautiful Grand Hotel about a block away from the theatre.
Apparently, McKinney is one of the fastest growing cities in the US, with the population nearly tripling since 2000. While having dinner at the Mellow Mushroom, I chatted with someone who said McKinney is supposed to triple again to around 400,000. The people seem nice and friendly (I really haven’t met a Texan who wasn’t) and I was able to admit I was an Eagles fan and escape unscathed.
